John is a lifetime resident of Champaign County where he grew up working on the family farm. Following his service in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, John worked for over 14 years in the commercial construction industry.
For most of those years, John operated a heavy crane and other pieces of heavy equipment. Prior to forming Champaign Excavating, Inc. John was an excavating company’s bulldozer operator for over 17 years. John has been recognized by contractors and other excavators as “top-notch” and the best bulldozer operator in Champaign and surrounding counties.
Mark grew up on the family farm and always had a love for machinery and running equipment. As a young boy, his father would turn him loose digging and repairing field tiles on a small John Deere backhoe. Mark graduated from Urbana High School in 1985 and continued his interest in machinery at NBC Technical School in Lima, Ohio graduating as an ASE Certified mechanic in 1989. He is currently one year away from completing his course studies for dual Bachelor of Science degrees in business management and human resources management. Mark worked for many years in the auto repair and towing businesses before joining the City of Urbana’s street department in 1993, where he worked his way into an equipment operator’s position and continued in that capacity for almost 12 years. While working for the City of Urbana, Mark graduated from Al-Winn’s Heavy Equipment Operators School, as a certified heavy equipment operator. Mark then became the general manager of an excavating company for eight months before joining forces with John Haulman and Ed Davis, when Champaign Excavating, Inc. was formed. Mark passed the State of Ohio’s sewage and septic installer’s exam in 2007 and is currently a registered septic system installer in Champaign and numerous other surrounding counties. He is also a Fee and Accepted Mason of Urbana’s Harmony Lodge #8 and the Champaign County Shrine Club. Mark is a current zoning board member for Salem Township in Champaign County. He has been a member of the Urbana Youth Softball Board and is a past youth sports coach in Urbana. Mark currently operates heavy equipment and serves as president of, Champaign Excavating, Inc.
Ed is a lifelong resident of Champaign County, and as of early 2011 has over 38 years experience operating heavy equipment. Ed’s specialties are septic systems, backhoe and bulldozer work. Ed began working for various excavating contractors in Champaign County shortly after graduating from West Liberty High School in 1972, and became known by many customers as one of the best backhoe operators in the area. Ed is also a very experienced bulldozer operator. Ed passed the State of Ohio’s sewage and septic installer’s exam in 2007 and is also a registered septic system installer in Champaign and numerous other surrounding counties. Ed has been active in the community in various forms, from a youth sports coach to a past board member of the Urbana High School Boosters Club. Ed currently operates heavy equipment and also serves as the vice president of Champaign Excavating, Inc.
